We’ve become Grandparents, with one more on the way!

Hi, it’s great to meet you!

I’m Heather, this is my husband Randy, and our first granddaughter, with one more grandchild on the way!! A new and wonderful season of life!

I’m also a student in a master’s of counseling program, a learner, a reader, a writer, and a lover of deep conversations and solitude. I’m curious about what God is up to in my own and other people's lives. Randy and I have been married for 31 years and we have two young adult sons and their beautiful wives who bring us joy each time we’re together. :)

Having lived with a chronic illness and pain for 30 years, I’ve become familiar with pain, loss, anger, and fear. But in those dark moments, God whispered. . . and I finally listened. Everything I thought I knew of God was smashed under the weight of physical pain. I didn’t know how to reconcile being a Christian with suffering. Wasn’t God supposed to fix things? And if he doesn’t, then what does that mean about my faith? What have I got wrong about God? And what kind of a God is He who would allow suffering?

Pain has remained a constant for me, but over time, and thanks to God’s gracious love, I’ve come to know more of who He is, not my fantasy wish of who I wanted him to be. He’s made the ground under my feet – solid; and my heart – courageous, and I can accept the reality that sometimes things just can’t be fixed. I’ve been transformed by his love and have come to realize that sometimes his answer to all my questions is that he is just simply with me. And for some reason, that is enough!

This website is a place to share those stories with you.

Randy and I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada where he is an artist (here) and I spend my days managing pain, doctor appointments, etc, time with friends, and offering spiritual direction(mentoring) to students of Kairos University (online) and others too, but most likely, you’ll find me curled up in a cozy spot somewhere with a coffee, laptop, and journal. You can plunk me down anywhere with those few things and I’m happy. :)

I have a Master of Theological Studies (Taylor Seminary), and Spiritual Director training from there as well. I am currently enrolled in a Master of Counseling degree through Kairos, Houston Graduate School of Theology.

Randy and I are finishing our third book project together called, “The Art of Pain Management” which offers encouragement about how to thrive (and survive) while in the midst of pain and ALL the waiting that is involved. You can follow me on Instagram to keep in touch with the progress of the book. I’m really excited about this one. I’m currently recovering from surgery, holding onto Jesus for hope and rest, and looking forward to the future.

Will you introduce yourself to me? I’d love to meet you.
